When it comes to real estate locations, there’s a big debate on which location is better: would you rather live in the city or the suburbs. Today, we’re going to look at the benefits of both in relation to Windsor, Ontario.
The Pros of Living in the City:
You’re closer to everything – One of the great things about Windsor is that it’s a city where everything you need is within a 20 minute drive. This includes the things you need from day to day as well as services you may only need once in a while like entertainment or auto repair shops. If you don’t drive, there’s taxis, Ubers, and public transportation, which can be hard to find in some of the other townships.
More opportunities to grow your career/business – Windsor is a very career and business focused city, which is why there are so many resources centered around it. Workshops for every industry can take place at the Windsor Accelerator, while WeTech and the Windsor Small Business Centre help locals create small businesses and startups that are known on a national scale. You can even learn coding on the weekends with Canada Learning Code. If you want to improve professionally, Windsor is the best place to do so.
Save money on your dream house – Believe it or not, your dream house can cost a lot less than you think depending on the neighbourhood you look into. It’s not that uncommon to find a 3-bedroom, 2 bath house for under $250,000 in a good, if not great condition. However, it is a lot harder to find a 3 bedroom 2 bath house in that price range the moment you step outside of the Windsor area. Instead, you’ll find million dollar houses in places like Lasalle, Amherstburg, and Woodslee.
The Pros of Living in the County:
The rules are a little different – Did you know that some of the only places you can have a food truck or a bonfire are in the county? Windsor has a lot of weird bylaws that have been done to protect businesses and civilians which can be jarring if you’re coming in from a place like Leamington or Amherstburg. If you’re a person who likes to relax next to a bonfire on summer nights watching fireworks, it may be better to find a place in Essex County.
Each town has a different culture – While Windsor has different cultures throughout the neighbourhoods, they almost pale in comparison to the difference to each township. Lasalle is very fitness focused. Kingsville and Leamingon are focused on agriculture. Amherstburg gets most of its tourism from the river views and Bob-lo island, while Essex relies a bit more on historical tourism. There’s something for everyone!
Enjoy the water however you want – While Windsor has a really nice view of the river downtown, the beautiful beaches are mostly in the county. Going to Holiday Beach or St. Clair Beach means enjoying swimming, water sports, fishing, picnics, and walking along the pier whenever you want. It’s a great way to get away and relax after a long day at work.
